Nowadays, the social media augmentation is also utilized by social movement. Some social movements even came from the social media itself! It has been a while since the last two successful crusades “Koin untuk Prita” and “Indonesia United” filled our timeline. The ability to penetrate into community layers and to touch any segmentation proofs the unlimited power of social media.

Rotaract members—we call ourselves Rotaractors—have pledged to be main contributors in social development given the fact we are social-youth organization and our background in communication/media, also a social media addict. Constructively, we observe that there are social movements which still need to be aware with the trend of using social media as means of communication. In other hands, those which are already keeping up with the trend seem to progress in their own separate way although they altogether have one goal: to improve and develop the community. Based on that, we would like to initiate the event where communities could share and learn each other while networking, moreover, then come up with a commitment to collaborate in action…all social media style!

The event will target open minded groups involve in social motion, in a high-tech environment, to showcase how efficient but impactful the movement could be as well as to craft the current strategy each group has sharper.

Social Movement Festival aims to contibute for Indonesia and the world trough:

  1. To educate various social movements on the use of social media as an effective and efficient tool to communicate, build relationship and publicize their activities, goal, events etc.
  2. To offer the audience a wide range of community choices that suits their own personality, so they can contribute to the fullest based on their passion.
  3. To be a “meeting point” that unite several organization or individuals that working or have ideas regarding on social movement, so they can make a synergy or working together to reach their goal and have wider-deeper impact to the society.
  4. To gather all social movement enthusiasts to have petition sign off as a pledge to cooperate and synergize to reach the BIG goal together; a better Indonesia through social movement activities.

Youth has always been major focus in UNESCO’s programmes. UNESCO was the first UN System agency to define and develop specific programmes for youth. UNESCO acknowledges the fact that young people are assets and part of development process, therefore they not only need to be heard but they need to be an integral part of the development process. They should participate actively in the process of critical thinking and empirical research in order to find solutions to these unprecedented challenges
